April 9 Rum Caye

We left Georgetown on April 7 after Skip's arrival.

The internet in the Bahamas is very problematic. Prior to our departure, Craig and Skip loaded up software on the new laptop and breathed life back into the Toughbook. The new laptop is Windows Vista, so we are having some issues with incompatible XP programs. Although the RayMarine navigation equipment is free standing, it is much easier to plot courses with a laptop and mouse, so we are glad that the Toughbook hard drive is functioning for that purpose as we have many miles to go in a short period of time. Still getting everything in order computer-wise, so no maps for you.

This is the entrance to Victoria Lake at Georgetown...you dinghy in under the bridge into town.

We crossed over first to Long Island and caught the biggest mahi yet. With Craig at the helm, Skip's line zinged first, followed quickly by mine. We soon discovered during the fight that we had hooked the same fish and reeled the monster in together. Craig gaffed it onto the boat. We will enjoy fresh fish for a good while.
Four feet, 19 pounds!!
He bloodied up the cockpit pretty good but ultimately wound up in the cooler.
Evening at Long Island.
Today, April 9, we crossed over to Rum Caye, a 25 mile trip. We pulled into a marina for fuel and decided to enjoy a quiet night at the dock in preparation for an overnight passage tomorrow, 120 miles to Mayeguana. Following that, another big passage to the Dominican Republic for some R&R in a new country before moving on.
These are some shots for the computer repair store and internet cafe in Georgetown...we spent a good amount of time here trying to get the Toughbook AND the backup drive resuscitated and interneting.

The propane truck comes to Georgetown once a week....all the cruisers line up when the truck is expected to fill tanks.
Skip brought me a gift...this stuff is fabulous, so I am recommending it to all the girls reading this blog. Heavenly!! Now if you want to be me, do this:
Go get some at Bath and BodyWorks. WALK to the store. Then rope off part of your shower so that it is 3 feet square. Enjoy!!

WOW - what a fish! You're gonna have to get a bigger cooler! Watch out for the big white one! That Skip really knows how to take care of the Admiral :)
Have a safe passage - looking forward to the next installment!

Happy Easter! Great fish! Reminds me of the halibut in Alaska - wayy too big for the box and that is a good thing!

Hope you are having a blast and it sounds as though you are.

Skip - what a guy! Now this guy knows what is essential in a girls' life!!

Plus, it is 2:47p CDT and I haven't had lunch yet. That fish is looking mighty good!

Have fun, eat big! We AV worker bees are enjoying the stories.
