Saturday morning came early, neither of us having gotten much sleep. We had planned to explore the island in the morning but it was just too uncomfortable on the boat and we thought we might head around the corner to a calmer anchorage before the weekend arrival of the Spanish fleet. These islands are only accessible by boat and it is THE playground for locals with boats. We scooted over to Punta Arenisca. We have been here before and it is a favorite spot. After a little OJ and French toast, we snorkeled, hunted and dived all day long.

February 26 Culebrita
On Friday February 26th we left the USVI and headed for the Spanish Virgin Islands. Fronts are moving through again and winds were right on the nose so we motored over to the islands. We trolled lines the entire trip and upon our approach to Isla de Culebrita, both lines zinged. Game on!! Reason #24 why everyone needs an autopilot. Auto drove the boat while Craig and I both got busy reeling in what turned out to be two tuna...sushi and fresh fish for dinner! Once secured in the cooler, we proceeded into Bahia de Tortuga. It was a tight entrance so I was on the bow looking for coral heads as Craig nosed us safely into the anchorage. We anchored at first but once one of the other boats left, we took one of two mooring balls. The island is a designated turtle nesting place. Not sure what time of year that goes down but no nests in sight, so I guess we will still come home. The winds shifted after dark. It was too late to leave and we settled in for a very rolly night.
