Grenada Carnival Parade of Lights August 10

The Parade of Lights started around 8pm. One of the competition team trucks (Carib Beer) was situated right at the marina entrance. How fortuitous. For a $23US entry fee, we could join the team. Each packet contained a shirt (tank tops for girls), a lighted wizard hat, a lighted squoosh ball to hang around the neck, a lighted arm band, a lighted wand and a cup so we could follow the truck and drink free beer. Eight or nine corporate teams compete against each other for the most participants and best light show. Team leaders organized synchronized wand-waving and whatnot. Our team was at the front of the parade and we paraded until midnight Although the parade would continue for hours, we peeled off so we could watch the other teams as they passed by. Street vendors sell grilled chicken legs, a tasty feast after a night of hard marching and beer drinking. Giving away the light trinkets to small children was great fun as we made our way back to the marina. Another trip to the pool to soothe tired legs and feet ensured a good night's sleep.
